Get Clucky is a good attempt on IGT’s part, to offer players a game with a theme that is inspired by life on a farm, at least the life that chickens have there. The main protagonists of this slot machine are various chickens, while the action takes place near a chicken coop. It’s not a highly original theme, but the implementation might just make the difference in this case. 5 reels are present in Get Clucky, and they’ve been filled with 20 active lines. A large jackpot, of 10,000 coins, has been advertised as a way to get the attention of players. It’s not the only thing that should attract you to this game though. You will also find wild symbols inside, with multipliers, scatters and free spins also on the list.
Like most IGT games, Get Clucky has its lines fixed, so you get to decide how much each one gets, but not their total number. You are using 20 lines here, and so you need to have 20 coins as part of your wagers. Higher budgets are usually accommodated in these slots from IGT. Typically, this can mean that you can spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars each round, if you want to.
Theme wise, I doubt you will find Get Clucky unusual or impressive, but the actual implementation is the one that makes the difference in this case. The slot is built around the idea of a chicken farm, with the main characters inside being the various roosters that live there. The game sets the action at a farm, which you see in the image from the background. The reels are the ones that give you the funny looking roosters, starting with the one that has sunglasses, and continuing with five others that have different colors and expressions on their faces, ranging from angry to happy. Of course, the poker icons aren’t missing either, and they seem to be made out of painted wood in this case. The design will give you the impression that it uses images from some cartoon series that you could find on TV. The quality of the symbols I found to be very good, at least for the roosters that act as features or which pay more. The poker cards are as usual, an inconvenience that we’ve learned to live with.
There are a couple of very good features present here, but the one that’s most likely to get your attention is the symbol that both acts as a wild and as a jackpot trigger. I’m talking about the image of the rooster with sunglasses, which is used as a wild symbol. You may use these Rooster wilds in combination with various high and low paying symbols, and it can substitute for any of them as long as they form a combo on a regular line. That obviously excludes the scatter, which pays from any position. The wild symbol is capable of expanding on its reel if it gets you a combo, plus it will double the wins it brings you since it also has a multiplier. There is even a chance to get two or more Roosters of this type on the same line, and to get them to pay you directly, as much as 10,000 coins. All in all, it’s a symbol that has a lot to offer. Another symbol that I think you will find interesting is the one acting as the scatter and sporting the Get Clucky logo. You need to get these in at lest three positions on the reels, in order to win 10 free spins. You can also expect for payouts to be made by the game, as high as 100x total bet if you have enough visible scatters. On top of the original 10 free spins, there is the option to retrigger additional ones, if you manage to land another set of 3+ scatters land along the way.
The big prize in Get Clucky is the rather obvious 10,000x payout that comes your way thanks to a combination of five wild Roosters. Next on the list is the scatter’s payout, which pays at 2,000x. As usual, IGT offers on the paytable the range in which the payback is expected to be in the long run, and I have to say that it’s not great. On the lower end, it can be at 91.71%, while the maximum is at 95.70%. For a modern slot machine, it would be average if it was always at the higher end, but since it can be even lower than that, I’d say that it doesn’t compare well with the other new releases.
Get Clucky fails to impress when it comes to the odds it gives you in the long run, and that’s what matters most in a slot machine that tries to get players to come back over and over again. It’s a shame, since it does other things very well, especially the way the design was implemented.
