About

Untamed: Bengal Tiger is one of four slot machines that Microgaming designed with wildlife in mind. They’re all included the Untamed series, and each game has as its title the animal that it has a focus on. In the case of this particular slot machine, we’re obviously getting a theme inspired by the Bengal Tiger. The slot has 243 ways to win, 5 reels that can spin each round, and it can pay you $9,000 in the best case scenario. The game gives you many of the features that you expect to find, meaning that there will be scatter symbols, free spins and regular wilds, but on top of that there is also the Trailing Wilds feature to obtain in certain situations.

Betting requirements

Though you get 243 ways to win each round, the wager needs to use just 30 coins. The slot pretends that it has 30 lines, to make betting easier, and so the wagers need to have between 30 and 450 coins in them (at 1 to 15 coins per line). You can use a coin value that’s within a range of $0.01 to $0.20, so when you use 450 coins you get a total bet of $90.

Theme & Design

The theme of the game seems to take us to India’s jungles, the place where you can actually find a Bengal Tiger. The focus being on this animal, we’re going to see it in more than one symbol. There are actually two symbols showing us the tigers, one that’s just a close-up of one’s eye, some antelopes, plus the forest where the predators live. The list ends with an unfortunate looking collection of poker cards, with a sandy look. I’ve never been a fan of the Untamed series visually, and Bengal Tiger is only marginally better compared with the other slot machines. I think that the jungle background looks better here, and the high paying symbols are more attractive as well, but it’s not enough to make this a great game.

Special Features

A modern game wouldn’t feel complete without a wild symbol part of its paytable, and Bengal Tiger doesn’t disappoint. It uses its own logo for this particular icon, and it gives it to you on all five reels available. You use the wild symbols as substitutes, nothing out of the ordinary there, but at the same time you also collect them in special boxes placed underneath the reels. As soon as you collect four wilds under the same reel, you will get that reel in wild form for the next four rounds. With the wilds being capable of paying you by forming their own combos as well, rewards of up to $1,500 per combo are possible, and you may very well land multiple wins during the same spin. The Bengal Tiger’s Eye, the scatter icon in every single Untamed game (though the eye belongs to other animals in the other titles), will be used to land you the slot’s best payouts, as high as $9,000 under the right circumstances. The symbol is slightly bigger than the position it occupies, and if it’s just outside the reel it will still be visible a little bit. You might get a lucky nudge at that point, a feature that will push the scatter symbol to the reel, as long as it is just outside it. The second great use for the scattered Eye is as a trigger for 20 free spins. The requirement is to have 3, 4 or 5 Eyes on the reels, as scatters. The wild symbols will create a trail of wilds behind them, as they slide down on the reels on which they appear. The only downside I see here is that you can’t get the free spins to retrigger.

Jackpot

If we’re just looking at the amount that you can win from five identical symbols, then the winner is the scattered Eye, with its top payout of $9,000. The second best win, of $1,500, comes from a combination of five wild Logos. The wilds can cover entire reels during regular spins, or create trailing wilds during free ones, so there are multiple opportunities to land more than one combination at a time. It’s even possible to have all positions of the reels with wilds on them, though highly unlikely. That kind of round would pay up to $360,000, since there will be 243 ways to win covered. We know about the slot’s average RTP that it is at 96%, which is a good number for a slot machine released these days. It’s not in the top tier of best paying slot machines though.

Conclusion

Untamed: Bengal Tiger handles some things the right way, but doesn’t impress in other areas. The best reason to play the game would be for its features, followed by the RTP, while the graphics are in third place.
