Fruit vs Candy is a game that has two sides to it, two different versions of the main symbols and the background graphics, one inspired by fruits, the other by candy. The title is pretty accurate in letting you know what your choices are in this game. The difference doesn’t come just from the graphics though, and there are some features that are unique to each of the two game modes. No matter what game mode you’re in, Fruit vs Candy will give you a chance to form your combinations on its 243 ways to win, so the layout doesn’t change. The payouts are not very big, getting up to 300x the line bet back to the player with the right combination. The feature list is pretty long though, including here the random Goodie Bag bonuses, the wild symbols, the Sugar Rush random bonus, scatters and the two types of free spins, one for each game mode.
It’s easy enough to bet in Fruit vs Candy. If you’re getting the mobile friendly design, then you have a bet value on the left side, which you can click on, to get a wheel of bet values to appear. You select a total value from there, within the range of $0.30 to $4.50, which means that the virtual paylines will get from $0.01 to $0.15. It ends up being a very cheap slot machine to play, which might be a disappointment for some players with bigger budgets.
At the start of the game, the first screen that you’re going to see is the one split in half, with the fruits on the left and the candy on the right. You pick either one, and the game mode that loads up will reflect your choice. The graphics are changed when it comes to the background image and the high paying symbols, but the poker cards remain the same ones. During Fruit Mode, you get cherries, berries, kiwi, oranges and lemons, while the Candy Mode has high paying symbols represented by different types of candy and jelly. The feature symbols have logos of the game or of the scatter word. The quality I’d say it’s better than what you would expect a regular fruit themed game to have, but on the candy side of things I’ve seen modern titles that look a lot better. Either way, it’s a good looking game, even though I’d consider it pretty simple overall, since the background image doesn’t bring much improvement to it.
The feature that I’d consider most regular here is the one that has the Fruit vs Candy logo, the wild. You will be able to have it included as a replacement in a regular combination, but it will not be useful with the scatter’s role. You can form a combination out of wilds alone as well, which will pay you up to 300 coins. Feature wise, the difference between the two game modes comes from the free spins, since each one has its own version. Three or more Scatter logos will trigger the free spins, and at the same time they will pay you when there are at least two in position. The Fruit Mode has for you free spins, which have a Cash Stash feature. The Royal symbols, or the poker cards as they’re also called, will be removed when they appear on the reels, and collected in the top left corner. Each removed symbol brings you a cash reward. The winning combinations pay a second time after the Royals are removed from the reels. Once you’ve removed and collected all Royal symbols, the free spins will end. With Candy Mode, the extra feature for the free spins is called Sweet Reel. Stacks of candy symbols appear on the reels, and they will sweeten a reel when a full stack is visible on it. The sweetened reels will transform regular wilds into stacked ones. You keep playing until you have all reels sweetened, or until you’ve gone through 50 rounds. One of the two random features that you can get, in either game mode, is called Sugar Rush Bonus. It will transform all high paying symbols into prizes, but only if you didn’t win any prize that round. You can also trigger free spins with only one Scatter logo present on the reels. The second feature which is random is called Goodie Bag. It triggers at random as well, and it will give you a cash prize.
The game does well enough feature wise, that I don’t mind that much the lack of a huge top payout. Its best combination will reward you with 300 coins, which apparently means you can get up to $45 with the low wagers that are possible. The scatter symbol, which pays 50x total bet for five scattered symbols, can bring you a reward of up to $225. Fruit vs Candy doesn’t have as good of an RTP as other slot machines, but at 95.77% it’s still a respectable choice.
The features and the two game modes are going to bring the game a bit of uniqueness, much needed since the theme choice is such a common one.
