About

Wild Catch is a game that was created with a certain niche in mind, that of the anglers that love to go out and fish. In this particular case, the fishing takes place in the middle of the ocean, on a boat. The fish you get on the reels are big and impressive, but the same can’t be said about the quality of the graphics. This slot machine comes via Microgaming, though it doesn’t look like one of their better designed titles. In the case of Wild Catch, the decision was made to turn it into a slot machine which has 5 reels & 243 ways to win. The reward system appears to be capable to deliver up to $50,000 in prizes, if the right elements come together. The game has its scatter symbols, free spins, multipliers and wilds, and they’re combined in an interesting way.

Betting requirements

If you want to start spinning the reels in Wild Catch, the minimum amount that you need to use to make it work will be $0.30. That’s going to be enough to cover the 30 lines which the game uses as a replacement for the 243 ways to win on which combinations actually form. There are multiple coins to be used on each line though, up to 10, plus you can modify the denomination up to $0.50, so you don’t need to stick with the small bets if you don’t want to. You can set wagers of up to $5 per line and up to $150 total.

Theme & Design

I’ve seen enough ocean and fishing themed slot machines out there, to be able to tell that this is one of the least interesting ones you could play, at least if you consider only the visuals. The quality of the graphics is OK(ish) for the themed symbols, and quite bad for the low paying ones which show you the Royals. If you check out the background, you see that fishing boat on the ocean, with the fishing rods sticking out on the sides. The dark blue reels host the various symbols, but most of them look computer made and not very interesting, even those that are directly related to the theme. The list of symbols starts off with the two that have additional abilities, showing you a Sword Fish and a Fisherman. The least important symbols are the ones with poker card logos on them. As for the regular high paying symbols, those have images of trophies, fishing boats, lures and weighing scales.

Special Features

One of the more fun things about this game is the way that the developers chose to implement its features. Both the wilds and the scatters can trigger free spins, though they’re of two different types. The Sword Fish wild will be able to appear on three of the five reels. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th columns are the ones that get the honor here. Normally, they’re going to just offer you their help as substitutes, in combination with any of the regular symbols that need them. However, if you happen to get all three wilds on the reels, then you will also receive 5 free spins. All wins are multiplied by 3x during the free rounds. Each win that has a wild in it will bring you one extra free spin. You can retrigger the 5 free spins by landing another three wilds. As for the Fisherman scatter, you will use it both to trigger free spins and to get wins of up to $7,500. You get both at the same time, as long as you have three or more symbols present. You can get 10, 15 or 20 free spins with their help. While you’re using free spins, any wild wins that you land will get a multiplier that starts at 1x, and goes up by 1x each time this happens. You can reach a multiplier of up to 10x for the wild wins. You can retrigger free spins, as long as you have 3+ Fisherman scatters visible on the reels again.

Wild Catch

Jackpot

While you’re in the base game, you can get at most $7,500, as a reward for having five scatter symbols present. During free spins, there is a chance to get as much as $50,000, but you need the multiplier of the wild wins to get as high as 10x, which is not easy. Wild Catch and its 95.50% average RTP should be good enough to convince you to play it, if you like everything else about it.

Conclusion

Wild Catch isn’t the best looking slot machine with a fishing theme, but I enjoyed its features and the way they were set up.
