The Mermaid’s Millions slot game has a simple theme, which revolves around the ocean and its mythical creatures. There are mermaids in the game, obviously, along with Poseidon, with treasure chests, pearls and jewelry boxes filled with gemstones. It’s also one of the older titles available from Microgaming, so I doubt many will find its design very attractive. Even though it looks like the sort of game with fewer lines, it still manages to give you 15 chances to win each round, on a setup of 5x3 reels. It’s got very good rewards, which can reach top values of up to $187,500, and it also gives you free games, scatter symbols, bonus games and wilds as features.
The game has multiple areas where you can change things up, so that you can get to a wager that you want to use. You have the number of lines for one, up to 15 selected each round, but each one requiring its own little wager. You have up to 5 coins that you can use per line, and they can have values that reach $5, so you can spend $25 for a single line if you want to. With 15 lines active, the total bet can be increased up to $375.
The theme has the ocean connection that so many slot machines seem to get, but the difference is that this is one of the earlier games to use it, so the competition wasn’t as high in this category when it came out. These days, I’d say that it’s not a great looking slot machine, though you can see that they put plenty of effort into the symbols that pay well. Even the lower paying ones, the Royals, get tiny creatures or objects next to them, so they’re not boring to look at. The better symbols are the ones which are directly themed though, so the ones that show you images of the mermaid, of Poseidon, a treasure chest, a jewelry box, a pearl clam or the sea horse that’s wearing sunglasses. I can’t say that I’m a huge fan of the current graphics of Mermaids Millions slot, but it’s not a game that you have to ignore because of the design either. It’s just dated based on our current standards. The animations don’t help either, since there aren’t any. The symbols will just blink on and off when they’re part of winning combinations.
A total of three feature symbols have been introduced in Mermaids Millions, one wild and two scatters. The wild symbol is the one showing you Poseidon, king of the seas, and it has the image of a man with a white beard and with sea shells on his head, as a crown of sorts. The symbol is going to be used as a replacement, so you can have it in all sorts of regular combinations, but it’s just as easy to use if it lands multiple times and pays you directly. Its rewards are among the highest that you can get in this slot machine. The Mermaid is the scatter symbol that can get you the free spins, along with some impressive rewards. The presence of two or more Mermaids on the reels gets you a prize that varies between 2x and 400x total bet, based on the number of symbols. Should you get at least three scatters of this type, in addition to the cash prize you will also receive 10 free spins, where all the wins will be tripled. Obviously, this is the time to trigger the top jackpot of Mermaids Millions, when you’re using the free games. The Treasure Chest is the last type of feature symbol that you will get, and it’s going to be your way into the bonus game. The Treasure Bonus triggers when you have three or more symbols of this type on the same active line. The rewards in the bonus game depend both on your luck and on the triggering symbols. For five symbols, it has a range of 60x to 2,500x the line bet. You can trigger this feature while you’re in free spins mode, but you shouldn’t expect its wins to be tripled because of that.
The top jackpot in Mermaids Millions can reach very large values, and not just because you’re using big bets. You can get back your line bet at a multiple of 7,500x during regular spins, but it will triple to 22,500x during free spins for the same combination of five Poseidon wilds. In actual cash values, you can win up to $187,500 in the base game, and up to $562,500 during the free spins. Even though this is an older game from Microgaming, it still pays as well in the long run as any of its newer titles. Its average RTP is at 96.56%.
Mermaids Millions gives the player a very good reason to play it just with its huge potential payouts. The features are pretty good as well, but the graphics are the ones that might give you pause, since they’re so dated looking.
