About

Carnaval is a slot machine that’s available at various Microgaming casinos, and it’s a title that seems to be inspired by the Brazilian carnival, taking place each year in Rio de Janeiro. The graphics are not the modern ones that you’d expect these days, so it appears to be an older title of theirs. To start with, you will discover that it’s a simpler game, the likes of which Microgaming has plenty of examples in its collection. The 5 reels get you up to 9 active lines, with the maximum payouts possible getting up to 5,000 coins, or as much as $500,000 apparently. The slot has scatter symbols, along with wilds, but that’s about it for the features that you can land along the way.

Betting requirements

A single coin may be used per active line, but Carnaval does let you change the number of lines that are employed inside. You have a maximum of 9 active lines, which is not a lot these days, and you can use on them only one coin. The 9 coins which can be in the maximum bet will have individual values of up to $100. You can end up wagering with up to $900. The minimum coin value is at $0.25, so the smallest bet possible with all lines active will be worth $2.25.

Theme & Design

For the theme, the title of the game gives you a pretty good indication of what it is about. Inspired by the carnival of Rio de Janeiro, it has quite a few symbols which are related to dancing, music and to other types of entertainment that you might find there. The slot machine isn’t very new, at least if we go by the look of it, and for me it’s a bit on the dated side. The symbols that were picked for Carnaval start out with poker icons that look funky, which have different colors and appear to be surrounded by tiny led lights. If we look at the more interesting symbols that are offered, you will have the images of the trumpet, of a flag, a clown, a Brazilian dancer with a feather headband, plus about three different logos. The logos are the ones that you need to pay the most attention to, since they’re going to pay the most and will also trigger the features. Quality wise, I’m not that excited about the offer that Carnaval has for us. It’s an older looking game, a title that can’t compare in any way with the better slot machines that developers are releasing these days. Even so, it’s playable at its current level, and I certainly can’t call it an ugly slot machine.

Special Features

This is the sort of game that will not give you too much to work with, feature wise. The number of lines that are offered could’ve been a hint, since there are quite a few simpler slot machines which also have a smaller number of lines, trying to be appealing to players that are usually going for the classics. There are only two features that are offered in Carnaval, two symbols that act as wilds or scatters, but they’re not going to offer you anything extra and they’re not particularly fun to play. First of all, you can take a look at the wild symbol. They didn’t go with an overly imaginative symbol, using a Wild Logo instead, though they’ve used the colored feathers to decorate it. You can have it in the role of the substitute if you land it on the same active line where you also have a couple of regular symbols that match. The symbols in the game need to be arranged from left to right on a line, in order to form a combo, and that requirement still needs to be considered, even with a wild helping you out. The other symbol that is considered a feature is the scatter. Once again, they went with the option to have its own logo as the image that represents it, so it’s easy to spot. Using these symbols to get paid is easy, since you only need to have a minimum of three visible somewhere on the reels. You don’t need to land them on the same line or in any particular order. You will get payouts of 2x, 10x of 50x the bet value, in exchange for 3, 4 or 5 Scatter Logos present. That’s about it for the features offered in this game. You’re not getting free spins, bonus games or multipliers, so it can be a bland offer overall.

Carnaval

Jackpot

Carnaval will pay up to 5,000 coins if you have the right five symbols on a payline that is active, and the outcome can be a jackpot of up to $500,000. All other combinations pay at 600 coins or lower. Despite the lack of features, Carnaval appears to be offering an average Return to Player of 96.94%, which is quite high and makes the slot a lot more viable than it would be normally.

Conclusion

Based on everything that I’ve seen, I’d say you should play the game for its long term potential and average RTP, but not if you want a modern design or a lot of features from your slots.
